Kincraig
Fair Held 4th July 2009
The Fair this year enjoyed a glorious day, weather wise, with just enough breeze to keep the temperature from going too high. The crowds appeared earlier than usual and though the numbers were not as good as last year there was a good attendance. Hopefully everyone enjoyed a great family day out.
The parade didn't bring as many children in fancy dress as we would have liked but with the Badenoch & Strathspey Pipe Band leading the way and Bubbles the Clown performing, it was quite a spectacle.
There were more competitors, both male & female, than usual for the An Suidhe Hill Race, it was won this year by local runner Paul Raistrick, in a record time. Paul won a new trophy, donated by the Highland Wildlife Park.
The Corrieyairack Challenge had fewer competitors than previous years, this may have been caused by the recession but despite this it was a great day for them. Badaguish once again worked really hard to organize this event and to keep up the high standards.
Kevin McKenzie the Chainsaw carver kept everyone enthralled by his demonstrations and the Owl he carved on site was donated to the Kincraig Hall and was auctioned by Tony for our funds. This event is very popular and we hope Kevin managed to sell all the beautiful carvings he made.
Bubbles the Clown kept the children entertained with his balloon shaping,
almost every child went away with a sculpted balloon, his efforts were
appreciated by one and all.
The Tribal Mystics, a Belly Dancing troupe from Nairn, was a fun surprise for everyone, they haven't performed at the Fair before but judging from the response from the crowds they will be back. Next year they have suggested they do a workshop to teach everyone a few moves so the crowd can join in, this sounds like great fun.
Guess the Weight of the Labrador was a huge success with Druidh the dog
having a wonderful time being petted and praised by the crowd, Fiona said he slept for nearly 24 hours next day but he was a real "pro" on the day.
All the stall holders had a good day especially Mr Petrolini with his Ice Cream stand, he seems to bring good weather with him so we hope he keeps coming.
The Brownies had plenty to sell and appeared to be busy. The stall run by Betty Lyall in aid of Kiwoka Hospital in Uganda, was also popular. As always the pottery table was extremely busy with lots of lovely pots and shapes painted by the children.
Jewelry, leatherwork, toys, kiddies games, home baking, art work and clothes what a variety of stalls and what an amount of work went into them, we really appreciate their coming to support our Fair.
The raffles were a great success with prize winners from all over the country, a Big Thank you to all our ticket sellers and to everyone who bought one.
The Marquee Dance, with the Dunphail Ceilidh Band was well attended and was enjoyed by all, no problems thanks to good stewarding.
May we thank everyone who volunteered, everyone who took part in events
and most of all thank you to the crowd who turned out to support our Fair.
